Assa Abloy Family of Locks
Assa Abloy is the parent company for Yale, August, and others. DACK has a direct business relationship with Assa Abloy and their cloud service "August Connect" which is the key management server for Yale and August Locks.
We can also connect to many Assa Abloy locks through cloud providers including SmartThings.
Yale
Yale's naming convention can be confusing as they have a lot of models and communication protocols. Below are a few notes on their naming convention. Please note that their models also come in both separated lever and deadbolt types. It's important when purchasing models that you don't assume a lever lock and a deadbolt lock would both be supported even if they have the same model name. They may in fact interact differently with DACK or other cloud providers.
Naming Convention
Model Name | Meaning |
CBA | WiFi (CBA = Connected By August) |
ZW | Z-Wave |
ZW2 | Z-Wave (2nd Gen) |
HA | Zigbee |
Additional Naming Conventions
YRD | D = Deadbolt Style Lock |
YRL | L = Lever Style Lock |
e.g. (YRD226-ZW equals Yale Residential Deadbolt 226 Lock with Z-Wave support)
Lock Hardware Supported Directly via "Connected by August"
Yale's direct integration is via the "August Connect" cloud. This enables DACK to connect with WiFi or CBA-supported devices only. For other Yale devices (like Z-Wave or Zigbee models) please see "Connected via SmartThings" below.
Note, unlike other WiFi locks, Yale Wifi locks come with a small mini "hub" that is plugged into the wall socket near the lock. This helps save battery life on the lock.
To onboard Yale Connected by August locks follow the same steps as onboarding August locks.
Note: Available = Lock API may be available to DACK according to documentation published by the vendor or 3rd party integration partner. Tested = DACK team has tested the hardware in its offices and can confirm it works with our platform in a test environment. Live = The lock is live in use by one of our operators at a real-world location.

Lock Hardware Supported by SmartThings
Alternatively, you can connect to Yale locks that are Z-Wave or ZigBee-connected devices using the Samsung SmartThings cloud. This would require an Aeotec hub to be purchased in addition to the lock. Below is a list of devices supported via SmartThings.

Conversion Kits
Yale modules (the internal computer of the lock) are sold separately. In theory, it would allow converting a lock from WiFi to Z-Wave and vice versa, however, many operators have reported issues with this conversion so we don't recommend it. They are also extremely difficult to source and purchase.
